A lifelong passion

José Gilberto was born in 1948 in Suchil, a little town near the city of Durango in the north of Mexico. He started painting when he was 18, and his paintings were a faithful reflection of the surroundings of the fields where he grew up.
Soon he developed his very particular style: raw, savage and hostile. With no other pretension than using and bringing to life the hues and colors he uses.
Gil graduated from the State University and became a professor in the Universidad Juárez del Estado de Durango.
He is presently living in San Miguel de Allende, México creating art.
